Between reality and fiction, before meets after. Optionaltime2 is about the tension between reality and fiction. In fiction we can do anything we cannot do in reality, at least in our current understanding of reality. In Optionaltime2 we play with this understanding, following what we started in the previous installation Optionaltime (see: before), where we investigated alternative ways of understanding time. A video projection with interactive timelines. By making it interactive the reality of the image can be influenced. An actor following his linear timeline in one part of the image can simultaneously appear in another part of the image following another linear timeline. This if only one of the viewers interacts with the projection. Although the viewer by his actions cannot consciously control what happens in the projected reality (movie), the linearity of it gets easily distorted. It could make you wonder about your side of the screen, the non-projected reality. |

Optionaltime2 projects a continuation of the public entrance where it is placed and creates an illusion of extended reality. The audience can influence a scene that took place in that entrance before, without any linear restrictions. The viewer is given a tool to interact consciously with the room where he or she is in. Optionaltime2 has a self-generating story-line that is directed by the people who view it, providing a setting in which the tension between 'realty' and 'fiction' can be stretched. |
